Our weekend trip to Philadelphia

This weekend we went for a long waiting trip to Philadelphia to shop out some Muslim clothing. We have heard about the place so much and finally we could make the trip.

The downtown area in 52nd street where the big name shops for Islamic Clothing are located is only about 40 minutes drive from our place. We picked The Islamic Place as our first destination and arrived there without any trouble. As soon as we parked our car, I felt like we came down to some other part of the USA. Philly has not been a familiar place to us before. So we were grasping the different sights and sounds of the area. However, it was delighting to see the Jubba wearing maniquins peeping through the windows, to hear 'Assalamualaikum' from the cars, and to observe walking by women in Niqabs. It was as if we were in a different country.

We excitedly entered into The Islamic Place and MASHALLAH! I didn't ecpect it to be like that professional, organized, clean and beautiful place full of all kinds of staff! And it was only the first floor we were browsing which has Women's dresses, Books, CDs, Hijabs, Attars and other accessories. Second floor is for Men only where they have all Men's clothing and even Lungi! : )

The sisters and brothers in the shop were very helpful in finding products we were looking for. The atmosphere was very nice with the background nasheed for kids.

I was amazed enough with the stocks of scarves and hijabs. But it would have been much more delightful if I could find cotton or a bit lighter material dresses. Most of the clothing were polyster which is a bit hot in this weather. But for winter, The Islamic Place is where one needs to go!

We also shopped at Al Minar and Muslim Fashion & Books which were nearby. The Musalla where we prayed our Dhuhr prayer was a bit scary place before we could find it. But Alhamdulillah brothers on the street helped us find our ways.

If anyone wants to visit the place, one quick tips - "put extra coins in the meter while you park" , we learned the hard way. : )
