NABIC - North American Bangladeshi Islamic Community

Tuesday - Islamic Institution in USA series

Background and History

On 24th March, 1990 a meeting was held at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, among a number of Bangladeshi Muslims coming from various parts of North America. Extensive exchange of ideas among these participants preceded this meeting. The main theme of the meeting was to explore how we can make a modest but meaningful contribution toward pursuing a bright, viable and prosperous future of Bangladesh and the Bangladeshi Muslim community in North America as parts of the Muslim Ummah. At the conclusion of this day-long meeting the participants unanimously decided to form an organization called North American Bangladeshi Islamic Community (NABIC).
